First Female Tarrytown Trustee Passes Away

Emily Basher, Trustee from 1974 to 1979, Tarrytown’s first female Trustee, passed away on June 21, 2006. She was married to William Basher who was also a Trustee from 1957 to 1973.

imagesHusband William died in 1973 and according to son, Thomas, who is currently Tarrytown’s Deputy Mayor, his mother got into local politics "because she wanted to fulfill several unfinished projects started by her husband." One key project was Basher Field, still operating today on the riverfront.

In addition to her civic duties, Emily had three other boys. She was a WAC in World War II and a school teacher for BOCES.

A busy lady with a busy life!
