DESCRIPTION:The Lincoln Depot Museum is pleased to announce the start of their 11th season with\nOpening Weekend on April 25 and 26\, 2026. \nThe 2026 season will feature many new artifacts\, a new bi-monthly event and a special presentation on Saturday.\nOpening Day Presentation \nBen Kemp from the Grant Cottage NY State Historic Site will help kick off the season with a special presentation\, “Ulysses S. Grant and Thomas Nast.”\nFirst Saturdays \nThe popular series “First Saturdays” will continue in 2026 with a full line-up of speakers and topics. The series begins on Saturday\, May 2nd with historian and author Daniel Weinfeld and his presentation on the NY 6th Artillery of the Civil War and how many area enlistments were in the heavy artillery regiments. There will also be a highlight with this presentation to one of the new exhibits in the museum! \nNew: Military Antiques Roadshow \nThe West Point Chapter of the Company of Military Historians are teaming up with the museum to offer a special series where noted historians and collectors display their own collections and are on hand to assess items brought in by visitors who may be in need of additional information to better understand the history of their artifact. Where possible\, they may even have an idea of the current value of the item. The roadshow will take place on 3 Saturdays during the 2026 season: June 27\, August 22nd and October 24th. \nAmerica 250 Events \nThe Lincoln Depot Museum will be participating in the America 250 celebration with a series of historical presentations on the 3rd Saturday of each month throughout the season. The series begins on May 16th with George Baker\, Esq\, and his program\, “Meet John Adams; Lawyer\, Founding Father and US President.” The entire series schedule is posted on the museum website. \nTravelling Exhibits \nThroughout the season the museum will host two travelling exhibits: “When the War is Over – Museum of Civil War Medicine” and “Faces of Civil War Nurses” by Rod Coddington and Military Images Magazine.\nThe doors of the museum will open at 1 PM and the presentation will begin at 2 PM. Admission will be $10.00 per person with children 12 and under and museum members free. \nNew Items on Display for 2026 \nThe Lincoln Depot exhibit: “New York and Abraham Lincoln: The Indispensable Relationship\,” will include new artifacts on loan and in the museum’s growing permanent collection\, including a presentation M1850 Officers Sword belonging to Lt. George D. Hyatt of the 6th NY Heavy Artillery “Anthony Wayne’s Guard.” Lt. Hyatt was a resident of both Putnam Valley Peekskill and is interred at the Shrub Oak Methodist Church Cemetery.\nReenactments Throughout the Year \nThe 5th NY Duryee’s Zouaves living history regiment will once again participate in events throughout the season with encampments\, drills and educational events.  \nMore Details on Museum Website • Sign Up for Email Notifications \nThe 2026 season for the Lincoln Depot Museum will run from April 25 to November 22. Grant\, American President and Commanding General of the Union Armies\, as portrayed by Ben Kemp from the Grant Cottage State Historic Site in Wilton\, NY. Learn about Grant’s early life\, his time as our local neighbor at West Point\, his military service\, and his two terms as President of the United States. \nIn conjunction with our new exhibit of Civil War era Illustrations and Cartoons\, hear about U.S. Grant’s relationship with cartoonist Thomas Nast. It was reported that Grant credited his 1868 Presidential election to the “Sword of Sheridan and the Pencil of Thomas Nast.” Lincoln is believed to have made similar remarks about Nast during the Civil War\, noting that Thomas Nast has been our best Recruiting Sergeant!  \nJoin us at the Lincoln Depot Museum on April 25th with special guest\, Ben Kemp\, who will bring Ulysses S. Grant to life\, sharing his amazing life story\, and answering all of your questions. Mrs. Grant will be accompanying the General!
