Introducing Pooh & Friends…, A new childcare center in Tarrytown

Imagine a safe, nurturing environment for your child loaded with fun-filled activities that focus on learning. Welcome to Pooh & Friends, where children from six months to five years can develop the skills needed to succeed in Kindergarten and beyond.

It’s childcare with something extra.

Barbara Lazaar, director and proprietor, brings over twenty years of education experience and a great love of children to Pooh & Friends. She has worked as a teacher and principal in New York State schools, beginning as a first grade teacher.

"This has been a dream of mine come true. I have always wanted to work with youngsters and help them develop the skills they need, especially those needed to start school. I’ve seen first-hand what children should know and that’s what my program emphasizes."

Activities at Pooh & Friends are academically focused and based on a structured curriculum. The program includes assessment tools to monitor each child’s progress against a set of key goals and learning objectives. Fine and gross motor skill development, learning through play and introduction to computer use are part of the program. The New York State testing for school readiness was used to formulate the curriculum to be sure that Pooh’s students are truly ready to enter Kindergarten.

Nutritious meals are served including breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon snacks.

The center will also feature seasonal themes. From June through July, the themes are Camping, Circus Arts, Gardening, Bird Watching and a Hawaiian Luau. Various multi-sensory activities will be the heart of each theme.

Pooh & Friends is conveniently located at 492 Benedict Avenue; (914) 631-1939.
