Business Briefs, C.A.R.S. — Serving the Westchester area since 1980

Dan Torena of C.A.R.S. at 333 N. Broadway in Sleepy Hollow has been repairing and rehabilitating area vehicles since he graduated from Denver (Colorado) Automotive in 1979.

That same year he became an Automotive Instructor, and taught automotive electronics in Mineola L.I. until 1987. Along with that assignment, Dan owned and operated his own repair business in Ossining, N.Y. In 1989 he moved his business to Tarrytown, and four years ago opened in his current location.

Today, he services some 355 cars a month, literally living up to the company’s name, complete automotive repair service. Dan is assisted by a staff of automotive specialists, i.e., electrical, engine, brake repair services, tune-up, suspension and other key automotive areas. In looking over the industry as it has developed over the last 40 years, Dan feels that the combination of building cars more soundly with much improved parts selection has led to far greater maintenance for all automobiles and trucks. It has also led to a much better sense of trust on the part of the public. The net has been that cars are now into the shop at 8:30-9:30 a.m. and are most often out in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Dan points out that even the quality of motor oil has improved right along with other parts. There is now, for example, a synthetic oil to go along with the conventional motor oil of the past. He says that today’s car can easily continue on the road for at least 120,000 miles, far exceeding the cars of yesteryear.

Dan is assisted in the front office by his wife, Masako. He has three children, ages 14, 21 and 22. He can be reached at (914) 524-9104.
