SUMMARY:“All Afternoon”: Book Talk with Susan Kleinman
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear author Susan Kleinman speak about her novel All Afternoon. Set in a tight-knit Jewish community in 1978\, All Afternoon is the story of Marilyn Weisfeld\, a once-promising writer who gave up her literary dreams when she got married twenty years ago. Now\, she’s too busy raising children and braiding challahs to think about what else her life might have held… until the night an old friend comes to dinner. Bestselling author Henry Goldfarb remembers Marilyn’s early stories. He remembers her. As their bond becomes more complicated\, she glimpses a more fulfilling life she could be living—if only she can find the courage to reach for it. Caught between the comfort of tradition and the thrill of new possibilities\, she will have to decide exactly what price she’s willing to pay to live bravely\, authentically\, and without regret. \nSusan Kleinman’s writing has appeared in The American Literary Review\, CRAFT Literary\, JewishFiction.com\, House Beautiful\, Cosmopolitan\, Hadassah\, The New York Times\, and dozens of other publications in the US and abroad. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania\, she was awarded a Kathryn Gurfein Writing Fellowship at Sarah Lawrence College\, where she subsequently taught classes in fiction writing and overcoming writer’s block. Susan is the mother of two grown children\, and lives in Westchester County\, NY\, with her husband. All Afternoon is her first novel.\nBooks will be available for sale and for signing.\nQuestions or RSVP (required) to Lisa Goldman at Adulteducation@ghcny.org. SUMMARY:Ghost Light: A Haunted Evening of Music\, Movement\, Poetry & Film
DESCRIPTION:Enter the Irvington Theater after dark… if you dare. \nThis Halloween\, the theater comes alive with Ghost Light\, a one-night-only\, theatrical experience where music\, poetry\, theater\, film\, opera\, and dance unfold throughout the space\, creating a haunting tapestry of live performance. \nThis multidisciplinary evening features a constellation of local artists including Rivers Edge Theater Company\, Hudson Valley Arts Collective\, soprano Ruby Nightingale in collaboration with dancers Erica Moshman and Sydney Rosenberg\, spellbinding short films\, and irresistible jazz tunes from The Candace Lynn Quintet featuring Candace Lynn Matthews\, Sammy Wags\, Chris Conte\, Will Rich\, and Andrew Klein. Together\, they transform the theater into a darkly magical Halloween dreamscape of music\, movement\, story\, and shadow. \nThe spirits come out in the Rivertowns on Halloween. Come dressed accordingly. Costumes are encouraged but never required. Families are welcome\, though some moments may be too spooky for younger audiences. \nCome see the Irvington Theater in a new light. Gather your ghosts\, summon your coven\, and join us for an evening of live\, local\, bewitching art. \nThe performance will be approximately 60-minutes long with no intermission.

SUMMARY:Kids Short Story Connection Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Thrives in Greenburgh! \nDoes your child love to read and write stories? Or do you know a child who does? September 19th is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids Short Story Connection workshops. Thirty-three years ago\, the very first KSSC workshop was held in the Greenburgh Library with 10 kids between 9 and 12 years old. Today\, the Kids Short Story Connection meets at Greenburgh Town Hall (as well as over the Zoom platform). Young writers are assigned to workshops according to age and writing levels. This separation ensures that young writers meet in our round-table sessions with their creative-writing peers. All workshops are led by published authors/teachers. Each workshop has no more than 10 participants. This ensure that there is enough time for writing and sharing of work written during the workshop sessions. The two in-person workshops for kids between 9 and 14 meet at Greenburgh Town Hall on Saturday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. The Advanced workshop for advanced writers 14 and over meets over the Zoom platform at the same time.
