SUMMARY:RIVERTOWN FILM SCREENING OF "BLUE MOON"
DESCRIPTION:58 Depew Avenue Nyack\, NY 1096\n(845) 353-2568 \nContact: Patricia Schneider/Publicist\n(917) 612-2675 \nA Melancholy Glimpse of Celebrated Lyricist Lorenz Hart in “Blue Moon” \nMarch 2026–Together they wrote unforgettable\, beautiful songs – “The Lady is A Tramp” and “My Funny Valentine” among them. Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart’s partnership was one of the most successful teams of all time.\nTheir collaboration had already ended before Hart’s alcoholic death in 1943. “Blue Moon”\, which is being presented by Rivertown Film on Wednesday\, April 8th at the Nyack Cener (South Broadway at Depew Ave.\, entrance on South Broadway)\, focuses on the opening night of “Oklahoma “several months before Hart’s demise. “Oklahoma” was created by Rodgers and his new partner\, Oscar Hammerstein II\, whom Rogers\, fed up with Hart’s drinking binges\, has teamed up with. Hart is present in the opening night audience\, though he’s disdainful of the musical and positive it will tank. He slips out after the curtain call and heads to Sardis’\, where Rodgers and company will later show up to await the reviews.\nHart hangs at the bar\, though he has quit drinking. He holds court and lambasts the show\, clearly wounded by his former collaborator’s new partnership. The man is desperate and at the end of his rope\, and Ethan Hawke’s portrayal is spot on. Hart was also a deeply closeted gay man\, who makes a great show of flirting with a young college beauty at the bar. The film does a nice job of revealing the power dynamic between Rodgers and Hart -who owes what to whom\, and what each man represents in the big scheme of American musical theater. In Hart\, a portrait of a man who longs to be needed emerges. \nThere will be a discussion following the film with the screenwriter Robert Kaplow\, who was nominated for an Oscar for “Best Original Screenplay”. Author Lynn Lauber will moderate the talk back. \nDoors to the Nyack Center open at 7:30pm\, and the film begins at 8pm. Tickets are $13/General Admission\, $11/Students & Seniors\, and $9/Rivertown Film Members More information can be found at rivertownfilm.org.\nRivertown Film is a non-profit organization which was founded in 2001. Their mission is devoted to celebrating\, exploring and promoting the art of the motion picture through film screenings and educational programs. The organization is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts and with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and our corporate sponsors are Elena Schloss\, Happy Dwellings with Elena/ Julia B. Fee\, Sotheby’s International Realty\, Painter Smith Advertising\, Emily J. Blake MD\, and Emerald Medicare.\n. \n#. #. #. #

SUMMARY:Returning to the Land: Gallery tour and poetry reading
DESCRIPTION:Participants in the March 2026 Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop will read their original poems alongside the landscape paintings from Shen Wei: Still/Moving that inspired their writing. \nThis gallery tour and poetry reading differs from a traditional seated reading; it will invite gentle movement\, collective attention\, and deep listening. Poems will be heard where they were written—in the presence of the paintings—creating a layered exchange between stillness and sound\, brush and breath\, art and language. \nThis reading offers audiences a unique way to experience poetry and visual art. It will require periods of standing in the gallery; limited seating will be available. \nThis event will be followed by a reception in the DR Center Gallery\, now showing Shen Wei: Still/Moving. \nAll sales final; no refunds.

SUMMARY:Remembering Remarkable African American Women of Westchester
DESCRIPTION:Westchester has been home to a number of prominent African American women\, many of whom have been relatively unrecognized. In this 60-minute digital slide presentation\, Barbara Davis relates the Westchester years of early pioneers\, such as Sojourner Truth\, to more contemporary women\, such as leaders in psychology\, dramatic arts\, music\, law\, and other fields. Croton-on-Hudson’s own Lorraine Hansberry provides the link in a fascinating thread of remarkable African American women with ties to Westchester.

SUMMARY:Off With Her Head
DESCRIPTION:Off With Her Head is a wordless\, movement-driven spectacle inspired by Lewis Carol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. In this surreal reimagining\, our female heroine Alice battles shifting rooms\, impossible rules\, unrealistic expectations\, and a Red Queen – part idol\, part omen – who embodies every system that silences voices that should be heard. Bold\, strange\, and visually electric\, the piece transforms the fight to claim space—and self—into a hypnotic\, physical rebellion.

SUMMARY:AMERICAN CLASSICAL ORCHESTRA PERFORMS "GENIUS"\, A CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT AT IRVINGTON THEATER ON APRIL 10
DESCRIPTION:The American Classical Orchestra (ACO)\, New York City’s leading period instrument orchestra\, present Genius\, a chamber music concert . The evening offers a performance of Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major\, D. 956\, widely acknowledged as a cornerstone of the chamber music repertoire. The program will be repeated at the Irvington Theater on Friday\, April 10\, at 7:30 pm. \nThe program will be performed by members of the American Classical Orchestra\, including violinists Krista Bennion Feeney\, praised by The New York Times for her “dramatic interplay of ferocity and light slyness” and Laura Lutzke\, a Caramoor International Music Festival “Rising Star”; violist David Cerutti\, co-principal violist with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s; and cellists Myron Lutzke\, recording artist and principal cellist of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s\, and Loretta O’Sullivan\, praised by The New York Times as “an agile\, eloquent player.” \nthe String Quintet is the composer’s last chamber music work\, which was completed in September 1828\, just two months before his death at age 31. Notable for adding a second cello instead of the usual second viola in a quintet\, the work is also striking for its frequent and unexpected key changes\, highlighting the genius of Schubert’s unique originality. Discounted at the time of its creation\, the Quintet’s first public performance in 1850 was not until 22 years after his death\, followed by its publication three years later. Over time\, the Quintet became recognized as a masterpiece.

SUMMARY:Open Studios with Austin Ballard & Margaret McCann
DESCRIPTION:Join us for open studios with our Artists in Residence: Austin Ballard and Margaret McCann. Peek into their studios and chat with them about their practices. \nAustin Ballard (b. Charlotte\, North Carolina) is sculpture artist\, working with traditional textile pattern-making and a propensity for science fiction\, to conjure up the organic and the engineered. Derived from the Rattan Palm\, the core material becomes reference to both plant and body. Although considered handicrafts\, the sculptures transform their fibrous nature to create a mysterious uniformity\, evocative of a digital reproduction or artificially generated form. Evoking a sensitivity for touch and reflection\, the sculptures patch together intimate objects like modern talismans\, augmented scholar’s rocks\, and coded tapestries. \nMargaret McCann has had solo exhibitions at Jannone Disegni di Architettura in Milan\, The Painting Center in New York\, and Artemesia in Chicago. Reviews of her work have been included in La Repubblica\, Corriere della Sera\, the LA Times\, and Huffington Post. McCann studied at Yale U.\, Washington U. in St. Louis\, and the NY Studio School\, and her awards include a Fulbright\, Ingram-Merrill\, Blanche E. Colman\, and NH State grants; and artist residencies at Ragdale\, Millay\, AAIRome\, and Cité des Arts in Paris. She currently teaches at Art Students League of New York.
