SUMMARY:Harmonic Landing Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Village of Croton-on-Hudson invites the public to celebrate the grand opening of Harmonic Landing\, a unique\, interactive public sound art installation at Croton Landing Park. A community celebration and dedication ceremony will take place on Sunday\, November 8\, 2026\, at 3:00 PM along the waterfront at Croton Landng. \nCreated by renowned international sound artists Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger (O+A)\, Harmonic Landing transforms ambient environmental sounds into live musical harmony. Utilizing specialized resonance cylinders and speaker systems installed on the park’s concrete pads\, the artwork captures everyday sounds from the surrounding area—including passing trains and traffic from Route 9—and filters them in real time into changing harmonic chords. \nThe installation carries special meaning for the local community\, as co-creator Bruce Odland was a deeply valued\, long-time resident of Croton-on-Hudson. Having lived and worked in the village on Old Post Road North for decades\, Odland was a pioneer in public sound art who constantly found hidden music in everyday environments. The opening serves as a tribute to his legacy\, bringing his globally recognized artistic vision home to the very waterfront that inspired his community.

SUMMARY:The Hessian Hills School
DESCRIPTION:The Hessian Hills School was an influential progressive school in Croton-on-Hudson from 1925 to 1952. It was founded in a garage by a group of parents and soon moved to an old house on Glengary Road. When the school was destroyed by fire in 1931 funds were raised to build a large modern building that today is Temple Israel of Northern Westchester. Hessian Hills called itself an “experimental school” and was associated with six other experimental private schools in and around New York City which pioneered creative techniques of teaching art\, music\, science and social studies. The presentation by Village Historian Marc Cheshire is based on a collection of material at the Croton Historical Society and archival research.

SUMMARY:Kids Short Story Connection Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Thrives in Greenburgh! \nDoes your child love to read and write stories? Or do you know a child who does? September 19th is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids Short Story Connection workshops. Thirty-three years ago\, the very first KSSC workshop was held in the Greenburgh Library with 10 kids between 9 and 12 years old. Today\, the Kids Short Story Connection meets at Greenburgh Town Hall (as well as over the Zoom platform). Young writers are assigned to workshops according to age and writing levels. This separation ensures that young writers meet in our round-table sessions with their creative-writing peers. All workshops are led by published authors/teachers. Each workshop has no more than 10 participants. This ensure that there is enough time for writing and sharing of work written during the workshop sessions. The two in-person workshops for kids between 9 and 14 meet at Greenburgh Town Hall on Saturday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. The Advanced workshop for advanced writers 14 and over meets over the Zoom platform at the same time.
