DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of Seven Generations of Hope\, followed by a panel discussion and reception. \nWhen Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican youth return to their ancestral homeland\, an unexpected partnership with Catholic sisters transforms both groups—proving that healing intergenerational trauma begins with choosing hope over history. Together\, they find common ground in the seven generations principle: the idea that decisions made today should allow seven generations in the future to thrive. \n70 years after forced removal from their ancestral homeland\, nine members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation return to New York’s Hudson Valley. Welcomed by the Dominican Sisters of Hope at the Center at Mariandale\, they discover an unexpected partnership with the very institution that historically sought to erase Indigenous culture through the federal boarding school system. The sisters\, who have embraced Indigenous wisdom and eco-spirituality\, demonstrate that institutional healing is possible when people choose to listen rather than impose. The youth reconnect with their language\, their ancestors\, and a land that still remembers their voices. Inspired by the sisters’ commitment to Earth stewardship and future generations\, the youth return home energized to plant seeds—in gardens\, in language revival\, in their communities. Dustin Hoffmann’s Michael Dorsey is only thinking of his own career when he disguises himself as a woman to audition for a part on a daytime soap opera\, but when the showrunners and the viewing public accept him in the persona of Dorothy Michaels\, he discovers that performing femininity is more than just a matter of clothing\, makeup\, and gesture. Locked into his adopted role by contractual obligations and the televised spotlight\, the contradictions of his private life and public persona build up alongside his surprising reputation as a pop-feminist figure. Co-starring Jessica Lange\, Bill Murray\, Teri Garr\, and Pollack himself\, Tootsie was equally embraced by real-life audiences and turned out to be a smash hit both critically and commercially. \nThe Bonnie Katz Film Series is an annual event honoring our Ossining Public Library colleague Bonnie Katz (1952-2021). A librarian and passionate film buff\, Bonnie had a positive spirit and outgoing personality\, and was a respected member of our profession and the Ossining community. This year the series will consist of screenings of three classic movies from the Hollywood studio era to the 1980s\, featuring some of Bonnie’s favorite actors and directors.

SUMMARY:Hudson River Day @ the Croton Yacht Club
DESCRIPTION:The Croton Yacht Club is happy to announce its annual “Hudson River Day” celebration will be held on Saturday\, September 12th\, from 11 AM – 4 PM at the Croton Yacht Club located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson.\n 	The mission of the event is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river\, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote\, enhance and protect river related recreational resources. There will be events and exhibits throughout the day targeting both children and adults\, focusing on the history and ecology of the river. Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured\, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making\, fossil making; sail boat rides\, and local artist displays and sales.\nFree sailboat rides\, will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22’ sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first come first served basis. The sails will depart at 11AM\, 12PM\, 1PM\, 2PM and 3PM. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent beginning at 10:00AM for any of the day’s scheduled sail times. Limit of 4 passengers per sail. Passenger age requirement: must be at least 12 years old\, under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.\n There will also be a youth fishing clinic and contest sponsored by the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and the Yacht Club. Volunteers will be present during the hours of 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM and provide the use of fishing equipment and bait\, free of charge. Fishing rod and reel combinations will also be awarded as prizes. All youths wishing to fish at the Yacht Club must be accompanied by an adult.\nThe Croton Yacht Club looks forward to coordinating this event because it provides the membership and local exhibitors the opportunity to share their river related knowledge and expertise with the community\, especially the children. The organization realizes that only through this transfer of knowledge can it safeguard the future of this great resource\, the Hudson River. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission is free so please come and join us in a fun filled\, educational and family focused event you will surely enjoy. ID is required. \nKids’ Zone is located in front of the Brick Museum – 12 Main Street. \nThe NY Waterway Ferry will run 11-9 pm during the Crawl between Haverstraw and Ossining. A free shuttle will pick up visitors at the Haverstraw landing and drop them off across from Village Hall\, 40 New Main St.\, though the event is walkable along West Street to Downtown (6 blocks north – 12 minutes). Download the NY Waterway ferry app to access the boat faster.  FERRY COST: $4.75 one-way for adults; children under 5 free; seniors/disabled $2.50 one-way.
