SUMMARY:Miki Orihara Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This residency project develops an ongoing choreographic work that began with Orihara’s 2014 solo Prologue (performed at La MaMa)\, originally centered on her relationship with her mother and now expanding to explore the broader influence of “mothers”—women she has encountered who have profoundly shaped her life and artistic voice. Tentatively titled Resonance\, the project will evolve through a series of workshops\, an open rehearsal\, and a final performance. A key inspiration for Orihara is her late teacher Nanako Yamada\, who transmitted Dalcroze’s “20 gestures\,” an early modern dance practice that influenced both Japanese and American pioneers. During the residency\, Orihara will share a selection of these gestures with participants\, guiding them to develop their own movement vocabularies and collaboratively build new material. An open rehearsal will provide space to experiment and deepen the work\, while the culminating performance will present this evolving choreography\, incorporating projection and video in collaboration with a videographer\, as she continues to investigate the intersection of memory\, lineage\, and embodied resonance.

SUMMARY:REV2150: The 1st Rhode Island Regiment - Forgotten Valor in the Cause of Liberty
DESCRIPTION:The 1st Rhode Island Regiment\nForgotten Valor in the Cause of Liberty\nSaturday\, July 18\, 2026 at 2:00 pm\nwith Dr. Aaron Mair \nThe 1st Rhode Island was called by a number of names: The Rhode Island Regiment\, Varnum’s Regiment\, The Black Regiment\, Olney’s Battalion\, and others. Unlike most Continental Army units\, the 1st Rhode Island was composed largely of black enlistees\, including former slaves\, as well as some indigenous people. It was one of the few Regiments to serve the entire duration of the war – from the Siege of Boston to the Army’s disbandment in 1783. One historian noted\, “There is no record of a popular outcry against the black presence\, no record of fights or interdisciplinary problems caused by racial integration. The common white New England soldier seems to have accepted blacks. The objections to the black presence came not from the rank and file but from the highest levels of policy makers and politicians.” Were they finally equal? Hardly. \nJoin us at The Lincoln Depot as we welcome Dr. Aaron Mair to share the amazing full story of the 1st Rhode Island – including the Yorktown\, NY Battle of Pine’s Bridge in 1781. Where did they come from? Where did they serve? What became of the men after the war? And why did they wind up filing back-pay claims with the War Department?

SUMMARY:The Surprising Story of Peggy Shippen Arnold
DESCRIPTION:Margaret Arnold\, better known by her childhood name Peggy Shippen\, has been portrayed as either a total innocent or the scheming mastermind behind Benedict Arnold’s treason. Letters\, deeds\, wills\, and other documents from the time correct the fiction and reveal the nuances of an 18th-century woman navigating family\, marriage\, and two countries at war. Hear the truth from the woman\, some credit in convincing Benedict Arnold to turn coat. \nPresented by Char Weigel in period attire. \nChar Weigel frequently publishes & presents on Hudson Valley Revolutionary War history. She is a board member of the Odell Rochambeau Museum and Vice President of Special Projects for Revolutionary Westchester 250. \nFree and open to all. No registration is required. \nThis program is a collaboration between Warner Library & Revolutionary Westchester 250.

SUMMARY:Rivertown Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:58 Depew Avenue Nyack\, NY 1096\n(845) 353-2568 \nContact: Patricia Schneider/Publicist\n(917) 612-2675 \nA Gripping Portrait of a Trailblazing Journalist in “Steal This Story\, Please!” Screening at Rivertown Film \nJuly 2026– Alot of drive\, nerve and tolerance for risk-taking is a requirement for any journalist working in the independent news media. \nRivertown Film is presenting a documentary about one such reporter\, Amy Goodman\, “Steal This Story\, Please!” on Wednesday\, July 22nd at the Nyack Center (58 Depew Ave.\, Nyack\, entrance ion Broadway). Goodman is the investigative journalist who hosts the progressive news program\, “Democracy Now!”. Oscar nominated directors Carl Deal and Tia Lessi trace the development of this program and explores how the American News Media became centralized and controlled by a few large companies and what those results have been. It makes an impassioned argument for journalism that operates outside corporate media structures. In addition\, it recounts events that Goodman has covered\, including the 1991 East Timor Massacre\, the pipe oil protests in North Dakota and many more. It’s full of scenes of Goodman chasing down politicians and sources who would like to control their own narrative but also looks at the fundamentals of journalism that she believes in and has passed on to colleagues. \n“Steal This Story\, Please!” makes a strong case for independent news outlets as being vital to a healthy democracy. Without these\, the film believes\, we may lose the ability to discern the truth altogether. \nThere will be a post film discussion with the producer Karen Ranucci and Suzanne Barclay of The League of Women Voters in Rockland County\, moderated by independent editor and publisher of the Rockland County Business Journal Tina Traster. Community Partners are The League of Women Voters of Rockland County. \nDoors to the Nyack Center open at 7:30pm\, and the film begins at 8pm. Tickets are $13/General Admission\, $11/Students & Seniors\, and $9/Rivertown Film Members More information can be found at rivertownfilm.org. \nRivertown Film is a non-profit organization which was founded in 2001. Their mission is devoted to celebrating\, exploring and promoting the art of the motion picture through film screenings and educational programs. The organization is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts and with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and our corporate sponsors are Elena Schloss\, Happy Dwellings with Elena/ Julia B. Fee\, Sotheby’s International Realty\, PainterSmith Advertising\, Emily J. Blake\, MD and Emerald Medicare. \n#. #. #. #
