SUMMARY:Hudson River Day @ the Croton Yacht Club
DESCRIPTION:The Croton Yacht Club is happy to announce its annual “Hudson River Day” celebration will be held on Saturday\, September 12th\, from 11 AM – 4 PM at the Croton Yacht Club located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson.\n 	The mission of the event is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river\, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote\, enhance and protect river related recreational resources. There will be events and exhibits throughout the day targeting both children and adults\, focusing on the history and ecology of the river. Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured\, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making\, fossil making; sail boat rides\, and local artist displays and sales.\nFree sailboat rides\, will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22’ sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first come first served basis. The sails will depart at 11AM\, 12PM\, 1PM\, 2PM and 3PM. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent beginning at 10:00AM for any of the day’s scheduled sail times. Limit of 4 passengers per sail. Passenger age requirement: must be at least 12 years old\, under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.\n There will also be a youth fishing clinic and contest sponsored by the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and the Yacht Club. Volunteers will be present during the hours of 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM and provide the use of fishing equipment and bait\, free of charge. Fishing rod and reel combinations will also be awarded as prizes. All youths wishing to fish at the Yacht Club must be accompanied by an adult.\nThe Croton Yacht Club looks forward to coordinating this event because it provides the membership and local exhibitors the opportunity to share their river related knowledge and expertise with the community\, especially the children. The organization realizes that only through this transfer of knowledge can it safeguard the future of this great resource\, the Hudson River. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission is free so please come and join us in a fun filled\, educational and family focused event you will surely enjoy. Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured\, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making\, fossil making; sail boat rides\, and local artist displays and sales.\nFree sailboat rides\, will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22’ sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first come first served basis. The sails will depart at 11AM\, 12PM\, 1PM\, 2PM and 3PM. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent beginning at 10:00AM for any of the day’s scheduled sail times. Limit of 4 passengers per sail. Passenger age requirement: must be at least 12 years old\, under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian.\n There will also be a youth fishing clinic and contest sponsored by the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association and the Yacht Club. Volunteers will be present during the hours of 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM and provide the use of fishing equipment and bait\, free of charge. Fishing rod and reel combinations will also be awarded as prizes. All youths wishing to fish at the Yacht Club must be accompanied by an adult.\nThe Croton Yacht Club looks forward to coordinating this event because it provides the membership and local exhibitors the opportunity to share their river related knowledge and expertise with the community\, especially the children. It is not only a farewell to Kidd Bunky\, but also a collective act of release\, honoring the people\, traditions\, and moments that shape us even as they move beyond our grasp. \nInspired by Arthur Hall’s groundbreaking 1977 production Fat Tuesday & All That Jazz\, this new work explores Black Mardi Gras\, Black Masking traditions\, New Orleans ritual life\, jazz\, and cultural survival. Rather than reconstructing Hall’s original work\, The Cut Loose enters into dialogue with it\, asking how these traditions evolved as they traveled across generations and geographies. \nBlending theater\, music\, ritual\, and communal experience\, The Cut Loose is a celebration of resilience\, remembrance\, and transformation. SUMMARY:Kids Short Story Connection Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Thrives in Greenburgh! \nDoes your child love to read and write stories? Or do you know a child who does? September 19th is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids Short Story Connection workshops. Thirty-three years ago\, the very first KSSC workshop was held in the Greenburgh Library with 10 kids between 9 and 12 years old. Today\, the Kids Short Story Connection meets at Greenburgh Town Hall (as well as over the Zoom platform). Young writers are assigned to workshops according to age and writing levels. This separation ensures that young writers meet in our round-table sessions with their creative-writing peers. All workshops are led by published authors/teachers. Each workshop has no more than 10 participants. This ensure that there is enough time for writing and sharing of work written during the workshop sessions. The two in-person workshops for kids between 9 and 14 meet at Greenburgh Town Hall on Saturday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. The Advanced workshop for advanced writers 14 and over meets over the Zoom platform at the same time.

A place for negotiating\, for acknowledging each other\, for moving in and through conflict and beauty\, for creating together.
