Many of us have written or listened to eulogies of our dearest/queerest loved ones. You can bring segments or a summary of a eulogy you once shared at a funeral (along with an object that celebrates that person)\, or you needn’t be so literal. Eulogize your pet cat of 18 years\, your child departing for college and empty-nesting you in bittersweet ways\, a portion of your misguided youth you want to say good riddance to\, a series of bad ex-boyfriends… Anything goes but we love a theme and encourage you to have fun with it. And please don’t forget the actual object–the SHOW part of your tell is just as important. If sharing a eulogy\, no need to go verbatim… \nHow this works generally no matter the theme: Save the date\, rifle your curio cabinet for the certain something that most resonates. Come armed with said object (spectacular\, strange\, spooky\, sentimental)\, and share a 5 minute story\, open mic-style\, with your friends and neighbors in an intimate setting at the historic Hudson Valley Writers Center of Sleepy Hollow. \nFirst-come\, first-dibs for 15 folks to tell a tale–so reserve your spot now. \nTickets are only $10 for audience and participants. Hope for the Journey is the theme. In this anniversary year\, launching on September 8\, 2026\, we’ll pause to appreciate the past and honor those who helped to shape the retreat center. \nWe promise an event full of surprises and celebration. You’ll enjoy a wonderful community in attendance\, with long-time and new friends. We’ll have live music by the talented singer-songwriter Madalyn Barbero Jordan\, delicious and creative seasonal fare\, and an open bar with beer\, wine\, and mocktails. The raffles and generous gift baskets will be a special highlight. \nOur 2026 Honorees are Don Bisson\, FMS;  Janet Corso; and Open Arms for Refugees. \nKacey Morabito Grean\, a longtime friend to Mariandale and a favorite presenter\, will be our Master of Ceremonies.  Kacey is a former radio professional and host who shared the helm of the Mike & Kacey in the Morning radio show on WHUD for years.  Kacey is the Executive Director of the Holy Mountain Retreat Center at Graymoor\, and brings popular women’s retreats to Mariandale twice per year. DESCRIPTION:Las Guaracheras is a powerful Latin jazz sextet formed in 2017 in the city of Cali\, Colombia. Their repertoire spans Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as Salsa\, as well as music from Colombia’s Pacific region. In their compositions\, Las Guaracheras place a strong emphasis on gender perspective and on the recognition and empowerment of women’s roles in the music industry – particularly within Colombia’s Latin Music scene.\nThrough their lyrics\, they convey a manifesto of female power and resilience. DESCRIPTION:When you read your poetry to an audience\, your poems deserve the very best reader they can get. This class will help you to become that reader. \nIn our 2-hour intensive\, we will start by focusing on technical matters such as determining the acoustical quality of the room\, using available enhanced amplification such as microphones\, and\, in particular\, improving your own vocal projection and your diction as a reader—while keeping your tone natural and\, when appropriate\, conversational. Then we will investigate interpretive matters such as defining the speaker of your poem and finding ways to embody that speaker and his or her relationship to the audience\, and engagement with the situation and feelings developed in the poem. When you come to the class\, you will bring in several poems you have written and read them to us all. We will then discuss your reading\, noting where you were most successful and offering constructive suggestions for improving your reading.  \nBIO \nDiane Tasca founded the Pear Theatre in California\, serving as Artistic Director for 15 years. She has written a half dozen full-length plays\, along with numerous short plays\, and has given dramaturgical support to many playwrights at the Pear Theatre. She holds a doctorate in literature.

The workshop is for people who already have Medicare\, as well as those soon to be 65\, planning their retirement\, or assisting relatives and friends with their medical decisions. \nDemystifying Medicare is offered as part of the ongoing work of the Westchester Library System to provide authoritative\, actionable information that supports seniors in being connected and well-informed. The program is co-sponsored by the Briarcliff Manor Recreation Department and the Briarcliff Manor Public Library. SUMMARY:Kids Short Story Connection Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Thrives in Greenburgh! \nDoes your child love to read and write stories? Or do you know a child who does? September 19th is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids Short Story Connection workshops. Thirty-three years ago\, the very first KSSC workshop was held in the Greenburgh Library with 10 kids between 9 and 12 years old. Today\, the Kids Short Story Connection meets at Greenburgh Town Hall (as well as over the Zoom platform). Young writers are assigned to workshops according to age and writing levels. This separation ensures that young writers meet in our round-table sessions with their creative-writing peers. All workshops are led by published authors/teachers. Each workshop has no more than 10 participants. This ensure that there is enough time for writing and sharing of work written during the workshop sessions. The two in-person workshops for kids between 9 and 14 meet at Greenburgh Town Hall on Saturday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. The Advanced workshop for advanced writers 14 and over meets over the Zoom platform at the same time.
