During the war\, the church was used as a field hospital by French General Rochambeau’s troops before and after the decisive battle at Yorktown\, Virginia. Eight French Revolutionary War soldiers are buried near the church. The site is recognized as part of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historical Trail. In the surrounding cemetery are buried two men who played notable roles in Revolutionary War: Brigadier General Seth Pomeroy (a hero of Bunker Hill) and John Paulding\, one of the three captors of Major John Andre (the British spy involved with Benedict Arnold).
