SUMMARY:Rivertown Film Presents "Fugs Film"
DESCRIPTION:58 Depew Avenue Nyack\, NY 1096\n(845) 353-2568\nContact: Patricia Schneider/Publicist\n(917) 612-2675 \nFugs Film! Offbeat Documentary Screens at Rivertown Film \nApril 2026–A real slice of downtown New York history\, the time capsule of a documentary\n“Fugs Film! “will bring viewers back to the Lower East Side circa 1964 when Rivertown Film\npresents it at the Nyack Center (South Broadway at Depew Ave.\, entrance on South Broadway).\nOn Wednesday\, April 22 nd .\nThe Fugs were poet musicians who nurtured their time. They used musical satire to explore\nboundaries of free speech and to bait “the Establishment”. Their influence can be seen on other\nmusical groups from The Mothers of Invention to Country Joe and the Fish. Founded by Ed\nSaunders\, a well-known ‘60’s counter-culture figure and the proprietor of Peace Eye Bookstore\nin the East Village\, poet Tuli Kupferberg and drummer Ken Weaver\, the Fugs blended a folk\nphilosophy with rock and roll and sound collage. They tapped into a wildly specific time and\nplace that resonates today. Be warned: they were called “the filthiest and most vulgar thing a\nhuman mind could possibly conceive” by a music executive in 1969.\nThere will be a post film discussion with the Director\, Chuck Smith\, and Co-Producer Myles\nAronowitz moderated by Kristi Zea. The Community Partner for the evening is Main Street Beat.\nDoors to the Nyack Center open at 7:30pm\, and the film begins at 8pm. Tickets are $13/General\nAdmission\, $11/Students & Seniors\, and $9/Rivertown Film Members More information can be\nfound at rivertownfilm.org.\nRivertown Film is a non-profit organization which was founded in 2001. Their mission is\ndevoted to celebrating\, exploring and promoting the art of the motion picture through film\nscreenings and educational programs. The organization is made possible by the New York\nState Council on the Arts and with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New\nYork State Legislature\, and our corporate sponsors are Elena Schloss\, Happy Dwellings\nwith Elena/ Julia B. Fee\, Sotheby’s International Realty\, Painter Smith Advertising\,\nEmily J. Blake MD\, and Emerald Medicare.
