SUMMARY:Creative Voices: A 6-Week Writing Program for Women with ADHD with Amy Reyer
DESCRIPTION:This 6-week course meets for 1.75 hours\, from 6:00-7:45 p.m.\, on 4/16\, 4/23\, 4/30\, 5/7\, 5/14\, and 5/21\, in-person at the Hudson Valley Writers Center. \nQuestions or wondering if it’s a fit? Reach out to Amy at amy.reyer@reyerec.com. \nCreative Voices is a co-creative environment for women with ADHD—where structure meets spontaneity and your ideas finally have room to run. Whether you’re drawn to memoir\, essay\, fiction\, or poetry\, this class offers an encouraging\, judgment-free space to explore your voice and follow your creative flow wherever it leads. \nAlong the way\, you’ll also get practical\, research-informed insights about how ADHD shows up in women—often in ways that are overlooked or misunderstood. We’ll gently reframe old stories of “not enough” and invite you to understand your mind in a more compassionate\, nuanced way\, while learning how to harness the strengths of an ADHD brain: originality\, intuition\, and out-of-the-box thinking. \nWe’ll focus on storytelling\, confidence\, and connection—with a rhythm that works for the ADHD mind: lively discussions\, short bursts of writing\, and plenty of laughter along the way. You’ll leave each session with progress you can feel and a community that truly gets you. \nBIO: Amy Reyer is a longtime HVWC student currently writing a memoir about her early childhood with undiagnosed ADHD in the 1970s. The project inspired her to create a writing workshop for women with similar experiences. She holds a master’s degree from Yale and a Ph.D. in American Studies from George Washington University and is an ICF-certified executive coach and mindfulness educator. Over the past decade\, she has researched the history of child psychiatry and the misdiagnosis of girls with ADHD. Previously\, she produced women’s programming for major media outlets\, including Discovery Communications\, XM Satellite Radio\, The Ellen DeGeneres Show\, Oprah/Harpo\, Real Simple\, and More magazine.

SUMMARY:CAHOOTS
DESCRIPTION:The Manor Club Theatre at 1023 Esplanade\, Pelham\, NY\, presents CAHOOTS\, a hilarious comedy by Rick Johnston\, directed by Elizabeth Paldino. \nKen and Jan’s swanky 1990s Manhattan apartment sets the stage for a dinner party that goes spectacularly off the rails. Things get nuttier as the evening progresses. SUMMARY:Briarcliff Manor Fire Department Open House
DESCRIPTION:As part of the annual RecruitNY statewide initiative\, the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department (BMFD) will open its doors on Sunday\, April 19th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM so residents can learn how they can serve their volunteer fire department and EMS. The department is located at 1111 Pleasantville Road in Briarcliff Manor\, N.Y. \nVolunteer fire departments across New York state have been faced with decreased membership and increased call volume. Like most volunteer fire departments\, the BMFD needs to bolster its ranks so it can continue to provide the optimum level of protection for its residents. \nDuring the Open House hours\, the BMFD will conduct tours of the station and apparatus\, allow visitors to operate a fire hose\, demonstrate firefighting and ambulance service activities\, and address questions about becoming a member. The Briarcliff Manor Police Department will feature one of their cars and a motorcycle. The NY State Troopers will operate their vehicle rollover simulator and the BMFD Safety Team will teach fire prevention. There will be free food\, beverages\, and fire truck rides for all attendees. \nThese activities give visitors a taste of what it means to be in the fire and ambulance service. Volunteer firefighters will also be on hand to discuss the requirements and rewards of joining. All are welcome and encouraged to attend\, especially families with children. \n “We welcome the community to join us during RecruitNY Sunday\,” said Chief Arie Uyterlinde “This is an excellent opportunity for people to meet their local volunteer first responders and learn more about the fire and EMS service. We are always looking for new members\, and we hope that after meeting us\, more people will be interested in becoming part of our family.” \nThe Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) is committed to assisting New York’s 1\,700-plus volunteer departments to connect with their communities and have sufficient members to protect them properly. Established in 2011\, RecruitNY is an undertaking of FASNY. It is made possible by the continuing support and generosity of Lincoln Financial Group (LFG). \nFor more information\, visit www.bmfd.org/join.
