SUMMARY:Kids Short Story Connection Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Thrives in Greenburgh! \nDoes your child love to read and write stories? Or do you know a child who does? September 19th is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids Short Story Connection workshops. Thirty-three years ago\, the very first KSSC workshop was held in the Greenburgh Library with 10 kids between 9 and 12 years old. Today\, the Kids Short Story Connection meets at Greenburgh Town Hall (as well as over the Zoom platform). Young writers are assigned to workshops according to age and writing levels. This separation ensures that young writers meet in our round-table sessions with their creative-writing peers. All workshops are led by published authors/teachers. Each workshop has no more than 10 participants. This ensure that there is enough time for writing and sharing of work written during the workshop sessions. The two in-person workshops for kids between 9 and 14 meet at Greenburgh Town Hall on Saturday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. The Advanced workshop for advanced writers 14 and over meets over the Zoom platform at the same time.

SUMMARY:Excelsior Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert
DESCRIPTION:“Inspired by America” continues this year’s America250 celebration\, with guest conductor Ariel Rudiakov. Debussy and Rachmaninoff were fascinated by American rhythms and culture. Start your concert journey with Debussy’s serene “En Bateau” (On a Boat)\, which mimics the gentle lapping of the waves. Grofé and Bernstein musically expressed aspects of the American soul. Grofé’s “Grand Canyon Suite” paints a musical picture of a day at one of our great natural wonders. Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story” punctuates that great score with finger snapping and shouts of “mambo!”\nProgram:\nDebussy: “En Bateau”\nRachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Drew Petersen\nGrofé: Selections from “Grand Canyon Suite”\nBernstein: Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story”\nTickets: $30 adults\, $10 high school and college students\, under age 14 free. Based on the remarkable true story of the 7\,000 airline passengers unexpectedly stranded in the small town of Gander\, Newfoundland\, following the events of September 11\, 2001\, this uplifting musical celebrates the compassion that emerged on that tragic day. As frightened travelers from around the world find themselves welcomed by a community of just 9\,000 residents\, strangers become neighbors\, cultures collide in heartwarming and humorous ways\, and lasting friendships are forged. Filled with an energetic Celtic-inspired score\, unforgettable characters\, and moments of laughter and hope\, Come From Away is a moving theatrical experience that reminds us of the goodness people are capable of when they come together. It’s a powerful celebration of generosity\, resilience\, and the enduring belief that even in times of uncertainty\, humanity shines brightest. \nThe original Broadway production of Come From Away opened in 2017\, featuring book\, music\, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. The musical quickly became an international sensation\, earning seven Tony Award nominations\, including Best Musical\, and winning the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical. It also received the Olivier Award for Best New Musical and has captivated audiences around the world with productions across North America\, Europe\, Australia\, and beyond.
