DESCRIPTION:The Hudson Valley In the American Revolution\nSaturday\, August 15\, 2026 at 2:00 pm\nwith COL. Seanegan P. Sculley\, USMA \nAt The Lincoln Depot Museum\n10 South Water St.  Peekskill\, NY \nIn many ways\, New York’s Hudson Valley was the key to the revolution. Military historians may study details of the battles of Saratoga\, Trenton and Yorktown – but it was here\, in our backyards\, that Gen. Washington escaped with his army intact after his loss at the Battle of White Plains in the fall of 1776\, where they suffered the terrible loss of Forts Clinton and Montgomery in 1777\, and where Anthony Wayne’s successful surprise attack captured British forces at Stony Point in 1779. It was here that Benedict Arnold committed his Treason of the Blackest Dye by conspiring with British Major Andre for the capture of West Point\, where Arnold escaped and Andre was hanged\, and here where the black and indigenous Troops of the 1st Rhode Island suffered tremendous losses at the Battle of Pines Bridge in 1781. The area north of Westchester became the supply depot of the Continental Army\, while Westchester itself became a volatile no-man’s land – with bands of highwaymen claiming alignment with both sides\, and no side. Meanwhile\, control of the greatest superhighway in North America – the Hudson River\, remained the military objective of nearly every action and decision.  \nJoin The Lincoln Depot as we welcome United States Military Academy History Professor COL Seanegan P. Sculley for a look at many of the varied roles played by the Hudson Valley region during this tumultuous time\, as well as some of the evidence we can still see today!

SUMMARY:America: Songs of Patriotism\, Praise\, and Protest: A Cello Show with Alex Prizgintas
DESCRIPTION:America’s democracy is based upon the freedoms of speech and religion as part of its cornerstone. This program presents songs of Patriotism\, Praise\, and Protest as part of the vital fabric that weaves our differences into our distinct strength. Key hymns\, noble anthems of patriotism\, and tunes of solidarity as well as resistance make this a worthy program celebrating our union. This unique sound\, provided by Alex Prizgintas and his amplified cello\, will be shown on Saturday\, August 15th at 2:30 PM. Classically trained\, he employs non-classical tools like distortion\, delay\, and the iconic “wah-wah” guitar pedals symbolic of 1960s Rock n’ Roll bands–all in conjunction with a looping station. Equally comfortable with intimate and stadium settings\, Alex can craft his own wall-of-sound through his 1\,000-watt amp. Accompanied by a narration that reveals some of the back stories of baroque\, jazz\, folk\, and Rock n’ Roll classics\, he immerses his audience in a journey through musical history. \nThose familiar with Alex’s work on the cello might be surprised to learn that he graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in regional history from Marist College and a graduate degree in public administration from Marist in addition to serving as president of the Woodbury Historical Society and town historian of Woodbury in Orange County\, NY. “I tend to have two audiences: those who know me as a cellist and those who know me through my lectures on topics of regional history. SUMMARY:America: Songs of Patriotism\, Praise & Protest
DESCRIPTION:Through a live cello performance and historical insight\, Alex Prizgintas explores the powerful role of music in American democracy. Featuring hymns of faith\, anthems of patriotism\, and songs of protest\, and resistance. this program highlights how music has expressed belief\, dissent\, and unity from the nation’s founding to today. \nFree and open to all. Presented live / in-person in Room C on the Library’s 3rd Floor. \nAlex Prizgintas is both a classically trained cellist and historian. He graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in regional history and a graduate degree in public administration from Marist College in addition to serving as president of the Woodbury Historical Society and town historian of Woodbury in Orange County\, NY.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of Seven Generations of Hope\, followed by a panel discussion and reception. \nWhen Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican youth return to their ancestral homeland\, an unexpected partnership with Catholic sisters transforms both groups—proving that healing intergenerational trauma begins with choosing hope over history. Together\, they find common ground in the seven generations principle: the idea that decisions made today should allow seven generations in the future to thrive. \n70 years after forced removal from their ancestral homeland\, nine members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation return to New York’s Hudson Valley. Welcomed by the Dominican Sisters of Hope at the Center at Mariandale\, they discover an unexpected partnership with the very institution that historically sought to erase Indigenous culture through the federal boarding school system. The sisters\, who have embraced Indigenous wisdom and eco-spirituality\, demonstrate that institutional healing is possible when people choose to listen rather than impose. The youth reconnect with their language\, their ancestors\, and a land that still remembers their voices. Inspired by the sisters’ commitment to Earth stewardship and future generations\, the youth return home energized to plant seeds—in gardens\, in language revival\, in their communities. Steiner utilizes constructions of photography\, video\, installation\, collage\, performance\, writing\, and curatorial work as seductive tropes channeled through the sensibility of a skeptical queer ecofeminist androgyne.  \nWilliam Lamson is an interdisciplinary artist whose diverse practice involves working with elemental forces to create durational performative actions. Set in landscapes as varied as New York’s East River and Chile’s Atacama Desert\, his projects reveal the invisible systems and forces at play within these sites.

DESCRIPTION:Sydney Pollack’s Tootsie (1982) turns the gender swap comedy premise into social commentary. Dustin Hoffmann’s Michael Dorsey is only thinking of his own career when he disguises himself as a woman to audition for a part on a daytime soap opera\, but when the showrunners and the viewing public accept him in the persona of Dorothy Michaels\, he discovers that performing femininity is more than just a matter of clothing\, makeup\, and gesture. Locked into his adopted role by contractual obligations and the televised spotlight\, the contradictions of his private life and public persona build up alongside his surprising reputation as a pop-feminist figure. Co-starring Jessica Lange\, Bill Murray\, Teri Garr\, and Pollack himself\, Tootsie was equally embraced by real-life audiences and turned out to be a smash hit both critically and commercially. \nThe Bonnie Katz Film Series is an annual event honoring our Ossining Public Library colleague Bonnie Katz (1952-2021). A librarian and passionate film buff\, Bonnie had a positive spirit and outgoing personality\, and was a respected member of our profession and the Ossining community. This year the series will consist of screenings of three classic movies from the Hollywood studio era to the 1980s\, featuring some of Bonnie’s favorite actors and directors.
