September 19th is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids Short Story Connection workshops. SUMMARY:How to Shine at Your Poetry Reading with Diane Tasca
DESCRIPTION:When you read your poetry to an audience\, your poems deserve the very best reader they can get. This class will help you to become that reader. \nIn our 2-hour intensive\, we will start by focusing on technical matters such as determining the acoustical quality of the room\, using available enhanced amplification such as microphones\, and\, in particular\, improving your own vocal projection and your diction as a reader—while keeping your tone natural and\, when appropriate\, conversational. Then we will investigate interpretive matters such as defining the speaker of your poem and finding ways to embody that speaker and his or her relationship to the audience\, and engagement with the situation and feelings developed in the poem. When you come to the class\, you will bring in several poems you have written and read them to us all. We will then discuss your reading\, noting where you were most successful and offering constructive suggestions for improving your reading.  \nBIO \nDiane Tasca founded the Pear Theatre in California\, serving as Artistic Director for 15 years. She has written a half dozen full-length plays\, along with numerous short plays\, and has given dramaturgical support to many playwrights at the Pear Theatre. She holds a doctorate in literature.

DESCRIPTION:Demystifying Medicare is perfect for anyone trying to navigate our complicated healthcare system for older adults. The workshop is for people who already have Medicare and are considering changes in their coverage\, as well as those soon to be 65\, planning their retirement\, or assisting relatives and friends with their medical decisions. \nDemystifying Medicare is offered as part of the ongoing work of the Westchester Library System to provide authoritative\, actionable information that supports seniors in being connected and well-informed. In this engaging session you will learn about the various parts of Medicare and the costs associated with medical and drug insurance provided by the government and private companies. \nTopics include original Medicare\, Medicare Advantage Plans\, prescription drug plans (Part D)\, Medigaps (supplemental plans)\, and cost-saving programs like EPIC that can help seniors with limited resources. \nThis program is co-sponsored by Croton’s Recreation Department. Come and get a handle on this thorny subject in a user-friendly atmosphere. DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Thrives in Greenburgh! \nDoes your child love to read and write stories? Or do you know a child who does? September 19th is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids Short Story Connection workshops. Thirty-three years ago\, the very first KSSC workshop was held in the Greenburgh Library with 10 kids between 9 and 12 years old. Today\, the Kids Short Story Connection meets at Greenburgh Town Hall (as well as over the Zoom platform). Young writers are assigned to workshops according to age and writing levels. This separation ensures that young writers meet in our round-table sessions with their creative-writing peers. All workshops are led by published authors/teachers. Each workshop has no more than 10 participants. This ensure that there is enough time for writing and sharing of work written during the workshop sessions. The two in-person workshops for kids between 9 and 14 meet at Greenburgh Town Hall on Saturday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. The Advanced workshop for advanced writers 14 and over meets over the Zoom platform at the same time.

Participants will be provided with a bean bag to lie down on. \nBarbara Burns is a Registered Yoga Teacher\, Reiki Master\, and Percussionist. Barbara has been teaching locally for the past 10 years.
