SUMMARY:Kikuo Saito: Dime Lake
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Kikuo Saito Studio and Kristin Larkin LoGerfo \n25 Jun. – 20 Dec. 2026\nOpening Reception: 4pm-7pm \nOne does not immediately associate Kikuo Saito\, master of abstraction\, with the landscape genre\, and yet he spent much of his life painting the natural scenes around him; from the Hudson Valley to his old summer home in the Victorian-built whaling community of Cape May\, New Jersey\, from the surfside hamlet of Rincon\, Puerto Rico\, to the more kempt\, parkland precincts and ramshackle urban cores of Madrid\, Vienna\, and Rome. He never traveled without his sketchbook and watercolors\, pastels\, charcoal\, pencil\, and pen\, and his plein-air renderings gave figurative expression to his fancy\, making his “color fields” bloom and blurring the distinctions among water\, cloud\, and sky. This show features a diverse selection of these landscapes\, along with a major painting — in fact\, the last painting Saito ever completed — a large abstract canvas given the landscaped name “Dime Lake.” There is\, of course\, no real Dime Lake\, at least none that Saito ever knew\, making his depiction an imaginary vista\, the view within\, lush with myriad greens. These landscape paintings are displayed alongside works by Kristin Larkin LoGerfo\, a student of Saito\, and Paul LoGerfo\, her husband and the physician of Saito’s first wife\, the choreographer and dancer Eva Maier. Brought together by Maier\, the friends and companions forged a close bond\, particularly through their regular trips together through nature. These works are like the postcards they brought back.

SUMMARY:If You Love Chairs So Much…Why Don’t You BE One?
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is part of the ongoing body of research on embodied knowledge\, somatic ideation\, and touch theory from The (Ari) Always Human Research Group\, led by artist\, industrial designer\, and educator Ari Elefterin. \nIn this workshop\, you will…do exactly what the title says! Through a series of guided movements and somatic ideation exercises\, we will examine the act of sitting—exploring questions of balance\, gravity\, support\, and the body’s capacity to hold\, adapt\, and generate new possibilities for interaction. We will begin with a mind/body warm-up\, followed by a series of somatic ideation exercises. Moving through several rounds of exploration\, you will work from using only your body toward incorporating architectural props as you gradually move closer to becoming a “chair.” Along the way\, we will embrace a spirit of humorous critique\, playfully interrogating the design world’s enduring fascination with the chair as we expand\, reimagine\, and build our own vocabulary for what a “chair” might actually be. \nDesigned for dancers and non-dancers alike\, the workshop requires no prior movement experience and is not discipline specific. All you need is a willingness to engage with your own embodied knowledge and curiosity. Participants will explore exercises involving giving and receiving weight with one another\, making it an especially lovely experience to share with a friend.
