The Element of Surprise: A Poetry Workshop with Andrés Cerpa (IN PERSON)
March 3 @ 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Often poets strive to build cohesion in their work. Yet as readers, surprise and discordant notes offer us wild moments of joy and inspire reflection. Students will submit one-two poems to be workshopped in a group setting, whose conversions will be framed by mentor texts that surprise and delight.
NB: This class will be taught IN PERSON at HVWC and will be capped at 10 students. Please review the course policies page before registering for any classes. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
All HVWC scholarship applications will be available on Dec 1 and will be due on Dec 15 for all winter/spring 2024 classes.
Andrés Cerpa is the author of two books of poetry, the debut collection Bicycle in a Ransacked City: An Elegy (2019) and The Vault (2021), which was longlisted for a National Book Award and celebrated as one of the best poetry books of 2021 by The New York Times. A recipient of a McDowell fellowship, his writing has appeared in Ploughshares, Poem-a-Day, The Kenyon Review, The Nation, The Rumpus + elsewhere.
