Writers Express presents: Write What Matters In-person at HVWC
Grades 9-12
July 10-14
1:30-3:30
in-person at HVWC

Why do we write? Because as writers, we have to. This upper-level teen workshop dives into the questions authors ask themselves during the drafting process. Why does this matter? Why today? Why am I the person to tell this story? Join a community of teen writers as we work from generative writing prompts and undertake “writing sprints” that free us up for breakthroughs in our work. We’ll write our own author’s bio, read and discuss essays to study the craft of writing, and have the opportunity for a one-on-one meeting with the teaching artist to help flesh out goals. Participants are welcome to bring a work in progress or start a brand new project.

Misty Yarnall received her BA in Creative Writing from Purchase College. She is a member of the Teaching Artist Institute of Rochester and has facilitated workshops for writers of all ages through nonprofit organizations such as Writers & Books, the Howard County Arts Council, Best Buddies, and the Hudson Valley Writers Center. Her work can be found in a handful of literary magazines, including Prime Number Magazine, The Roadrunner Review, and Coalesce Community. She holds awards in the Sixth Act Playwriting Competition, the 2 Pages/2 Voices Playwriting Contest, and the POV Fest Screenwriting Contest.
