Metaphors are literary devices that can be particularly useful in making a complex point through comparing one thing to another that is dissimilar to convey a simple effect. They are great tools not just for illuminating a point but also for eliciting high emotions.
In this workshop we will explore mindful metaphor mapping techniques to prime the pump for writing fantastic poems. We will also look at well-known poems that are heavy in their usage of metaphors such as, Maya Angelou – Caged Bird. William Blake – The Poison Tree.
KM Smith received a BA in English Language & Literature, and a MA in Childhood Education with special certification in Gifted/Arts Inclusion from The College of New Rochelle. She taught Creative Writing at the NYU Science & Technology Entry Program and interned with Essence magazine.
She has been published several times in The Phoenix, LUNA magazine and was the feature poet for Art in the Basin, The Poor Mouth Poetry series, and the Kappock Poets group in Riverdale, NY.
