PlusOne includes the work of artist Jeff White (Totemic17), a printmaker engaged in ideas of first acquaintance and collaboration. In a recent ongoing project he invites two parties to walk together in the Rockefeller Preserve. There they meet for the first time and participate in an art making activity, carving lines into separate wood blocks. The project, facilitated by Jeff White, results in their two lines combining into one print. The print is shown in tandem with screen printed photos of the collaboration.
Totemic17 invites Robert Patierno to be his PlusOne. Patierno, a painter and printmaker, observes and simplifies the world around him, often with bold marks and humor. His portrait, When He Fell Ill, is a layered illustrative depiction of both sorrow and joy on the face of its subject.
Catherine Latson creates compelling, threaded anemone-like objects, stopped in motion. She invites sculptor Noël Hennelly to share her votive-like structures that include the manufactured dovetailed with natural elements. Her resulting sculptures resemble contemporary ceremonial objects created by a skilled manufacturer/priestess.
PlusOne includes the work of artists: Gabrielle Burger with Ecka Blaire; Mark Green with Peg Curtin; Catherine Latson with Noël Hennelly; Anne-Marie McIntyre with Amy Bay; Edward Bear Miller with Gustavo Toaquiza Ugsha; Jeff White (Totemic17) with Robert Patierno; Natalia Woodward
PlusOne will virtually open on Saturday, June 13, 2020 . A live virtual opening reception will be held via Instagram Live (www.instagra.com/peep_space) at 4:30 pm. Gallery hours, appointments, artist talks and a closing reception are TBA as the project space gauges the Covid19 Pandemic. Please email PeepSpaceNY@gmail.com for any and all inquiries.
Peep Space is a project space for emerging and established artists to share their practice and vision with a wider audience. Founded in 2020 by Monica Carrier & Jane Kang Lawrence. Both artists met to find that they had a shared vision of creating a space for contemporary art to thrive in Tarrytown, NY.
