In search of Ephemeral Pools

April 7 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$4. – $6

Winter snowmelt and spring rains create vernal pools, temporary bodies of water, that foster new life in the forest. Certain species of frogs and salamanders rely exclusively on these habitats to breed and deposit their eggs before they evaporate in the summer. Survey one of the Preserve’s vernal pools with naturalist, Josh DiPaola, during this brief, but explosive breeding period and get a close look at eggs, larvae, adults, and potential predators. This program involves a 2-mile roundtrip hike and periods of standing.
Max: 15 people. Cost: $4. Parking: $6 per vehicle.
