Croton Chorale Performs ‘A Musical Menagerie’
May 31 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On Saturday evening May 31st, the Croton Chorale will perform “A Musical Menagerie” a concert of vocal compositions celebrating various animals throughout the ages.
Under the baton of its new conductor, Claire Collins, the Chorale will attempt to bring a little levity into our lives during this tumultuous time. “We’ll explore everything from the sublime to the ridiculous,” said Collins. “From the Archangel Michael battling the Great Serpent for control of heaven and earth, to Ogden Nash complaining about how he doesn’t want to end up as a panther’s lunch.”
The program’s pieces will include a choral arrangement of Vaughn Williams’ “The Lark Ascending,” featuring the Chorale’s principal violinist Carol Collins as the soloist, and several madrigals performed by 1601: The Queen’s Singers, the Bennett Conservatory’s adult madrigal choir. The music spans six centuries, from Palestrina and Morley in the 1500s to works by contemporary composer Eric Whitacre and the Chorale’s Conductor Emeritus Bob Collins.
