Critical Race Theory: The Facts Behind the Controversy
September 22 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pmFree
We must realize, as our slave forbears did, that the struggle for freedom is, at bottom, a manifestation of our humanity which survives and grows stronger through resistance to oppression, even if that oppression is never overcome.”
–Derrick A. Bell, Jr.
Join us via Zoom on Wednesday, September 22, for a lively conversation about one of the latest and hottest controversies on the American scene–the furor over Critical Race Theory. We’ll draw upon writings by some of the scholars and intellectuals who originated CRT, view brief videos in which key positions regarding CRT are explained, and explore how CRT is being used–fairly and unfairly–as a wedge issue in the current round of America’s ongoing culture wars.
From university campuses to local school boards, CRT is the topic of debates that often shed more heat than light. Bring your own stories, observations, and questions as we gather to learn what CRT is really all about and why it matters to us as Americans.
Free. All are welcome; no religious affiliation needed.
In an increasingly diverse America, race continues to divide us because of unconscious bias, willful blindness, deeply ingrained systems of oppression, and the burdens of history we have yet to address.
Rivertowns Episcopal Parishes Action on Inclusion and Race (REPAIR) is a community of Westchester citizens determined to play our part in bringing healing and justice to our society . . . starting with the local Episcopal churches in which many of us worship.
See us on Facebook at REPAIR Rivertowns for more information on our meetings, activities and for information and resources.
