Arc of The Moral Universe: A Notebook Project – Exhibit at The Field Library
November 16 - December 31Free
Welcome to the “Arc of the Moral Universe” notebooks!
Over 40 notebooks reveal the musings, passions, concerns, and dreams of artists, writers, and creative thinkers who share your world. Displayed in the Field Library Gallery so that you can browse through each page. These notebooks are beautiful, personal, insightful, and thought-provoking.
Curator/”Arc-ivist,” Carla Rae Johnson describes the origins and intentions of this profound and timely project: “In recent years, I have been increasingly concerned about the trajectory of justice in our country. A quote by Theodore Parker was recurring in my mind”:
“I do not pretend to understand the moral universe, the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways. I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. But from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice.” Theodore Parker 1853 (quoted by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Barak Obama)
Does the arc indeed bend towards justice?
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 20th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The exhibit will be available to view from November 16th until December 31st.
