Perry Morse—A RetroPerspective

I am presenting a group of oil and acrylic paintings completed within the last 5 years.

I have long been interested in the visual world. My interest in photography developed in the 1960s, when I was in college. There I had some part-time photo jobs. After college, I briefly worked for some industrial film companies, and then for years in the filmstrip industry as a producer and editor. My longest-lasting job was editing high school level social studies textbooks. Even in that job, I had a hand in picking the visuals that were included in the books. Meanwhile, I dabbled in local public access television production.

I retired from my textbook job in 2012. Then in 2013, I started taking art courses at the Clinton Street Center in Pleasantville. Ever since, painting has become a passion. At first, I found it especially instructive to copy paintings of some of the masters: Van Gogh, Hockney, Picasso, and others. More recent paintings are more original, but you might still see some images from other painters appearing in my work. For example, I included a Chagall image in one of my seascapes.

I believe that my works are open to interpretation by the viewer. Don’t expect me to tell you what any painting means; you tell me. There are no correct answers.
