Nearly New Shop Re-Opens

After over 50 years as a community landmark in Tarrytown, the Nearly New Shop (the thrift shop of the Junior League of Westchester-on-Hudson) nearly closed its doors for good this year.

News of the closing was met with overwhelming community support and sentiment as many expressed how much the Nearly New Shop (NNS) would be missed by the residents of the Rivertowns. Enter the Sustaining Members of the Junior League of Westchester-on-Hudson (JLWOH) who have come out of retirement and will take on the challenge of operating the shop.

As of October 5th, the NNS, located at 35 South Broadway, will be open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to 5. Donations are now being accepted of gently-used ladies clothing, jewelry, cookbooks, current best-selling books, bric-a-brac and small furniture items. Call the NNS at (914) 631-2620 for more information.

The shop’s proceeds will continue to be used to fund the community projects of the JLWOH whose past projects include the Ossining Open Door healthcare facility, New Beginnings, the Donald Reed Speech Center, Career Closet, Life Center, the Irvington Town Hall Theater and Art in the Park. The League’s current projects include a Scholarship Program, Kids in the Kitchen, and on-going ‘Done in a Day’ projects that address many different community needs throughout the Rivertowns and Rockland County.

The next new member informational open house will be November 16th at 7:30 pm at 35 South Broadway in Tarrytown. For more information on joining the JLWOH please call 631-2542 or e-mail us at jlwoh.membership@gmail.com.
