The 8th Annual “Tunnel to Towers Run” was held on September 27, 2009. It has become an annual event tracing the steps of F.D.N.Y. firefighter Stephen Siller on September 11, 2001.
The “Tunnel to Towers Run” follows the path he took on September 11th starting in Brooklyn and ending at Ground Zero. It commemorates his heroism for trying to save the lives of others. Today, people from all walks of life willingly join in this effort to raise money for charities set up in Stephen Siller’s name.
Five Tarrytowners were among the 6283 runners.
Brenton Wheatley, Alice McGee, Barbara Nyarady, Marco Girao and Ed Nedwick all ran the 5K course. Brenton Wheatley finished in 4th place overall with a time of seventeen minutes even.
