Weekend Events in Westchester County Parks

Westchester County Parks has planned a series of events that cater to all interests scheduled for the first weekend weekend of September 5 – 7, 2015

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
Lenoir Preserve, Dudley Street, Yonkers – (914) 968-5851
Life’s a Gall – 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Learn how galls form and who may be living inside.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 & 6
Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282
Art Exhibit on View – 12 noon – 4 p.m.
Artwork from the Hope Friedland Group will be on view in the Main House Gallery. Also, 9/12 & 13, 19 & 20, 26 & 27.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
Marshlands Conservancy, Route 1 (Boston Post Road), Rye – (914) 835-4466
Fall Bird Migration Hike – 7:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Bring binoculars to seek out these feathered wonders heading south for the winter.

Insects in the Meadow – 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
With the grasses and other plants in the meadow, there is plenty to attract and provide a home for a wide variety of insects.

Farmers Market – 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Shop from over 20 local vendors offering produce, cheeses, crafts and a variety of local items.

Friction Fire Workshop  — 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Adults ages 14 and older can learn how to make a fire and create their own firebox. Fee $40; pre-registration required at (914) 864-7286.

Weather Folklore – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Learn how the farmers of old predicted the weather, then make a craft to take home.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7

Monday Morning Bird Walk – 7:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Join Saw Mill River Audubon’s Anne Swaim for hike in search of local and migrating birds.
