October 2014 Family Programs at Muscoot Farm

Muscoot FarmMuscoot Farm in Somers was originally a “Gentleman’s Farm” founded by Ferdinand T. Hopkins in 1880 and operated as a dairy farm until Westchester County acquired the property in the late 1960s. Today, Muscoot Farm is a Westchester County Park that strives to preserve and interpret its agrarian past. Visitors may stroll through the original barns, visit with the animals, participate in educational programs or hike the many miles of trails. There is something for everyone on Muscoot’s 777 acres!

 

October 2014 Family Programs at Muscoot Farm

Registration Opens for Pre-K Fridays in November– Friday, October 3, 10 a.m.
Sign up your 3- to 4-year-old for this program about life on the farm at (914) 864-7286.

Pumpkin Patch – Saturday & Sunday, October 4 & 5, and Saturday, October 11 – Noon – 3 p.m. each day
Pick your pumpkins directly from the Muscoot vegetable garden. Fee for pumpkins.

Main House Art Gallery – Saturdays and Sundays, October 4 & 5, 11 & 12, 18 & 19, 26 & 26 — noon – 4 p.m.
“A Bounty of Beautiful Baskets” by Westchester Area Basketmakers Guild on view.

Muscoot Farmers Market – Sundays, October 5, 12, 19 & 26, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Final month to purchase fresh produce and food products from more than 25 local farmers. Go to muscootfarm.org for a list of vendors.

Mushroom Walk – Sunday, October 5, noon – 3 p.m.
Join naturalist Taro Ietaka to search for mushrooms in the park’s back country.

Mondays at Muscoot Bird Walk – Monday, October 6, 8:30 a.m.
Join Anne Swain from Saw Mill River Audubon for a walk through fields and woods. Meet in the parking lot.

Pumpkin Pickin’ – Sunday & Monday, October 12 & 13, noon – 3 p.m.
Take a hayride out to the farm’s pumpkin patch and pick your own. Fee for hayride and pumpkin.

Autumn Celebration – Sunday, October 19, noon – 3 p.m.
An afternoon of music, games, hayrides and crafts.

Boo Walk – Saturday, October 25, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Dress in your Halloween costume and enjoy a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt.

Run-the-Farm Race – Sunday, October 26, 8:30 a.m.
Pre-registration and information at runthefarm.org. Trails closed until end of race.
