Saw Mill River Pkwy Project in Mt. Pleasant to Wrap Up This Summer

Saw Mill River Parkway project

There may be good news arriving this summer for drivers who’ve endured a year-and-a-half of backups along the Saw Mill River Parkway in Mount Pleasant and Pleasantville.

The construction project to alleviate flooding by elevating two bridges on the parkway that began in November 2020 is expected to be completed this summer, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

Work on the 1.3-mile stretch of roadway between Exit 26 and Exit 29 has required lane closures in both directions, as well as detours because of closed entrance and exit ramps.

Southbound construction was completed in October 2021, but a lane remains closed in that direction while northbound work continues, according to DOT spokesperson Heather Pillsworth.

The new bridges are being elevated to meet 100-year flood projections, and the parkway will be stabilized to divert water from the road. Traffic signal work at Marble Avenue and landscape work are also part of the project.

  1. Summer is coming to a close in a few weeks. How about an update as to the completion of this project?

  2. Contractor did not make the end-of-summer deadline, but significant work has been completed and it seems like October completion is a real possibility. Bedford Avenue exit was reopened and barrier removal was underway. This project is being done at the same time as two others – in Mount Vernon and Pelham/Mamaroneck – so their progress is somewhat interconnected.

    1. Dont make excuses for the construction companies. They should have had in the contract that for every day the job is not completed past the deadline they have to pay back money. We’re sick and tired of these companies milking it and we have to deal with all the freakin traffic. Now they got the Elmsford area all jammed up. Between the politicians and the construction companies they got the citizens screwed.

  3. The project looks very close to completion as of today. I think it is time to commit to a completion date and publish it. If that can’t be done for some reason, at least give people an update on what else needs to be done before the project will be completed and fully opened in both directions.
