Congressman-Elect George Latimer (CD-16) has announced the reappointment of the Service Academy Board originally established by outgoing Congressman Jamaal Bowman. This decision reflects Latimer’s commitment to continuity, excellence and the recognition of the Board’s dedication to guiding students in pursuing appointments to the nation’s esteemed military service academies.
The Service Academy Board, a volunteer group of community leaders and military professionals, plays a pivotal role in evaluating applicants seeking nominations to the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Over the past four years, the board has been instrumental in identifying and supporting exceptional young men and women in achieving their goals of service to the nation.
Latimer said: “By reappointing this board, we ensure that their vital work continues uninterrupted, and we remain committed to identifying the next generation of military leaders. Their continued service underscores the importance of maintaining institutional knowledge and providing consistent support to academy applicants.”
Latimer plans to meet with the board in the coming weeks to discuss upcoming selection processes and share his vision for supporting the region’s young leaders.
