SUMMARY:Art For Purchase
DESCRIPTION:This fall\, The Rye Arts Center once again transforms Purchase Street in Downtown Rye into an open-air art experience. This year’s edition runs longer than ever before\, stretching from September 17th through October 29th\, with a special opening reception planned for the evening of the 17th. Residents and visitors alike are invited to experience art woven seamlessly into the fabric of everyday life\, all autumn long. This year’s event is thoughtfully timed to coincide with beloved local happenings—such as the annual October window painting— creating exceptionally vibrant opportunities to celebrate local creativity while amplifying visibility for both artists and local merchants. \nArt for Purchase is a public art project that reimagines storefronts as intimate stages for local and regional artists\, cultivating a rich dialogue between creativity\, commerce\, and community. As you browse shop windows or linger along the sidewalk\, you’ll discover unexpected moments of inspiration—artworks that spark reflection and delight amid the hum of daily routines. These works don’t just beautify; they invite conversation\, connection\, and a deeper appreciation for the role art\, and local artists\, play in shaping cultural identity and supporting local vitality. \nBy showcasing original art in the heart of Rye’s commercial district\, the initiative brings together artists\, business owners\, and the broader community in a shared celebration of creativity and local enterprise.

SUMMARY:American Classical Orchestra performs “Enlightenment”
DESCRIPTION:Musicians from the American Classical Orchestra are performing “Enlightenment\,” a chamber music performance of Mozart’s popular Clarinet\nQuintet\, featuring eminent historical clarinet specialist Elise Bonhivert\, and Haydn’s Quartet “The Joke.” \nEnlightenment\nIrvington Theater\nFriday\, October 23\, 2026\, at 7:30 PM\nElise Bonhivert\, basset clarinet\nEdson Scheid and Aisslinn Nosky\, violins\nJessica Troy\, viola\nSerafim Smigelskiy\, cello\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Clarinet Quintet in A Major\, K. 581\nJoseph Haydn: Quartet in E-flat Major\, Op. 33\, No. 2 (“The Joke”)\nMozart’s Clarinet Quintet was dedicated to his friend and virtuoso clarinetist Anton Stadler. It is the composer’s only piece for this instrumentation and one of the first to exploit the clarinet’s agility and range. Premiered in 1789 in Vienna\, the Quintet spotlights the clarinet’s then-untapped potential as a solo instrument and remains one of Mozart’s most beloved works. The soloist is Elise Bonhivert\, a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of the Hague\, who plays\, makes\, restores\, and repairs clarinets\, with a diverse collection of\nmore than 100 instruments of her own. In the early 1770s\, Haydn began to experiment with the string quartet\, writing witty divertimenti intended for entertainment. Around 1781\, his Op. 33 “Russian Quartets” replaced the traditional minuet movement with a scherzo. Following its publication\, the work quickly acquired the nickname Gli scherzi (The Jokes)\, with the second quartet of the Opus becoming known as Lo Scherzo (The Joke).

For over 100 years\, The Trust has been a home for local philanthropy and an enduring resource to address community needs. \n“Friends of Kensico Cemetery is a natural partner for this fund\,” said Laura Rossi\, vice president of The New York Community Trust in Westchester. “Their mission is aligned with preserving the histories and generational legacies of many Westchester families. The 5K is a place for people to come together to support this important cause\, and what better time than our country’s 250th anniversary to both look back and participate now to ensure that future generations can benefit from Westchester’s rich history and tapestry of cultures. We are deeply grateful to the Friends for this partnership.” \n“We are proud to support this new fund in collaboration with The New York Community Trust\,” said Matthew G. Parisi\, president of Kensico Cemetery and Friends. “This is an important step forward in protecting the places\, stories\, and traditions that shape Westchester County.” \n“Kensico Cemetery\, and all cemeteries\, play a unique role.
